Washington Association Annual Convention Holds 66th Annual Convention

The Washington State Fairs Association (WSFA) held its 66th Annual Convention, Oct. 26-28, 2006 in Yakima, Wash. 

The opening session on Saturday afternoon kicked off the convention with a welcome from WSFA President Yvonne Knuth.  After an introduction of the WSFA directors and a couple of committee reports, the floor was given to the opening speaker.  IAFE Director of Grants and Special Education Marla Calico gave her presentation entitled “We’re All in This Together.” 

After the opening session, the trade show opened it doors to the attendees.  Later, attendees had the option of attending a workshop by Ms. Calico discussing legal issues and E.coli or attending a variety of round tables ranging in subjects from grounds maintenance to Preservation of Fair History.  That evening, dinner featured a silent and live auction and an entertainment showcase emceed by Jeff Martin the Blonde Curly Haired Magician.

The next morning opened with an orientation for convention first timers.  The keynote speaker for Friday was Carol Scofield, Carol S. Scofield & Associates, presenting “Fitting a Well Rounded You Into a Square World.”  After lunch, more workshops were held.  Subjects ranged from “Future Fair Legislation” to “Everything You Wanted To Know About Insurance, But Were Too Afraid To Ask.”

After given the opportunity to go through the trade show, the doors opened for dinner.  Dinner guests dressed up in their most creative costumes for the Halloween Costume Contest.  Silent and live auctions were also held.

The WSFA Past Presidents’ Breakfast was held Saturday morning.  Even more informative workshops were held during that day.  They ranged from “Internet Promotions” to “Gate Admissions.”  The awards luncheon was held later that day.  After the awards were presented, WSFA held its Annual Business Meeting.  The President’s Banquet brought the convention to an enjoyable end.
