Student Internships
Work Placement (non-paid student internships) at Royal National Agricultural & Industrial Association of Queensland (the Ekka Show)
An excellent opportunity exists for a student/students to expand their academic options within the field of Marketing and Sponsorship or Event Production through participation in a work experience program in Australia with The Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland.
Primary Aim
- To provide a diverse educational experience for an international student within the study fields of Marketing and Sponsorship or Event Production.
- To provide an opportunity for a student to broaden their personal and educational perspectives, while gaining an appreciation for the diversity and cultural traditions of Australia.
Period of Placement: It is envisaged that the placement would be for a period of approximately 3 months during the summer vacation period (from early June through August) of 2010.
Job Descriptions
- Marketing and Sponsorship Assistant: To assist in the development, implementation and co-ordination of marketing campaigns and sponsorship activities of the RNA including the Royal Queensland Show, the Royal Queensland Wine Show and the Public Wine Tasting.
- Event Production Assistant: To assist the Event Production Team with the coordination and execution of a myriad of events both large and small.

While assistance will be offered to secure affordable accommodation the student will be expected to provide their own funding for travel and other expenses. This is a non-paid internship.

Temporary Part Time/Potentional Permanent Information Technology Technician
The following is a temporary part time position to support multiple time sensitive projects within the next 90 days to support events at the Florida State Fairgrounds, including the 2010 Florida State Fair with a potential to become a full time salaried position.
The position will be +/- 40 hours per week and requires a flexible schedule to accommodate daytime and after hours including weekends as required for changes, implementations, and updates.
The position will range from $16-20/hr depending on experience and qualifications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Two year degree or equivalent work experience.
- Prefer Microsoft, CompTIA, or equivalent certifications
Experience:
- Experience with website development and maintenance, hardware installation and troubleshooting, network connection and troubleshooting, use and support of Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, etc.
- Prefer experience with Adobe Suite products including Flash web programming including actionscript.
- Prefer experience with PHP, WHM, Cpanel, and/or Joomla 1.5
Skills Required:
- Ability to receive, organize, plan, multitask, and complete complex work assignments in a timely fashion.
- Ability to lift and install equipment up to 80 pounds.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills. Must be able to operate courteously under pressure.
Responsibilities:
- Consult with users and assist in support of the Florida State Fair Authority's user's hardware, software and communications components. This will include the configuration of distributed computer systems, operating systems, and the Florida State Fair ticketing system.
- Installation of new desktop workstations, relocation of existing computer related equipment, proper completion of all property related paperwork and markings.
- Implementation of updates developed and certified by the Director of IT and the Florida Department of Agriculture.
- Standard development, maintenance and expansion of the Authority's websites.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Event Sales & Services Director
With over 150 events yearly, OC Fair & Event Center is seeking a self motivated and energetic individual who wants to work as our Event Sales & Services Director, in an enthusiastic, energetic, and fun environment.
This is a permanent full-time position. $5,312.00 to 6,409.00, plus 15% Retention & Recruitment Differential.
Essential Functions:
Plans, organizes, and directs the concession and special event programs of the OC Fair & Event Center (OCFEC); establishes and maintains effective working relationships between the OCFEC, its' clients, and visitors; provides functional guidance to Unit supervisors/managers in the area of concession policy and management; recommends concession or agreement policies and standards, taking into consideration individual circumstances, good business practices, and the best interests of OCFEC; studies the need for and recommends conducting business with concessionaires based on the OCFEC policies, public need, business prospects, concession trends, and other data; determines that the policies and standards of the OCFEC are being followed; negotiates for and prepares complex concession contracts and complex special event agreements such as operating agreements with local jurisdictions, rental agreements, and permits for special services, meets with parties interested in concession contracts or agreements to explain the Department's policies; meets with persons, firm or organizations in connection with the negotiating or bidding process for service contracts; investigates complaints concerning concession operations and special event agreements and takes or recommends corrective action; keeps records and prepares reports to the CEO and Board of Directors on the concession and agreement programs. Plans, organizes and directs the work of a staff (both permanent and temporary) involved in providing customer relations and support services for all events held at the OCFEC, including the parking lots (public and exhibitor), gates and admission, box office, credential control, mini-rail, and other grounds transportation, concession coordination, set up and dismantling of sets and properties, and modification and maintenance of buildings and show facilities.
Highly Desirable Qualifications:
Four years of experience with significant public contact and supervisory responsibility in commercial property management or concession management with experience in the following areas: conventions; trade shows; major fairs; expositions or entertainment facilities. (This experience must include negotiating, preparing and implementing complex leases or special event agreements involving business or concession properties.)
Education:
Equivalent to graduation from college in business administration. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)

Fair Manager

Fair Manager
Full-time position to serve as the manager of the Coastal Empire Fair sponsored by the Exchange Club of Savannah, and the facilities manager and market agent for the Fair Grounds. Must be capable and willing to work both independently and collaboratively with the Board of Directors and officers of the agricultural fair and expo.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Shall serve as the representative of the Fair Association to the carnival providers, recommending contracts, fair dates, ticket prices, and other pertinent matters to the Fair Board for approval.
- Shall prepare a comprehensive annual budget for each activity/ function of the Fair, and all other activities, along with the expenditures from the previous year's activities and functions, presenting these to the President, officers and Fair Board for final approval and amendment.
- Shall collaborate with the Fair Treasurer and appropriate designated officers to operate a system of financial responsibilities for such items as purchases and expenditures.
- Shall secure and supervise all paid employees of the Fair including the resident caretaker. All employment must be with the prior approval of the President, officers and Fair Board and shall be by written contract.
- Shall insure that all buildings and grounds of the Fair are properly maintained and in good order prior to opening of the annual agricultural fair and any other event sponsored by the Coastal Empire Fair Association.
- Shall developed and maintain, with the assistance of the Public Relations Committee, marketing and promotional plans for all fair activities and functions, while actively pursuing sponsors and rentals for the annual fair and fair grounds.
- Shall present to the President, officers and Fair Board an annual report (orally and written) to include the current status and achievements, along with goals and expectations for the next year.
- Shall initiate and develop with selected members of the Board and officers as designated by the current president, strategic three and five plans.
- Shall commence the development of an operational plan for all functions directly responsible to the Fair Board.
- Any duties/responsibilities as assigned by the President, officers, and Fair Board.

Department: Non-Fair Sales Events
Education: BA from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.
Work Experience: At least 2 years of experience in customer service and/or sales (preferred). Entertainment or hospitality industry experience a plus.
Skills & Characteristics:

Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative support to the Sales Director for non-fair events.
- Contract Administration:
- Generate event contracts and price proposals for non-fair events through Event Pro software to send to clients with appropriate event documents.
- Tracking: Submit to contracts department for review.
- Manage and track the flow of all required documents including payments and insurance records, and distribute event info via setup sheets to appropriate internal staff. Communicate with client(s) to provide reminders on documents required as necessary.
- Prepare purchase requisitions/maintain files to track expenses within department.
- Update calendar/distribute (via print/e-mail) bi-weekly to internal staff/partners.
- Communicate and assist the marketing department to promote non-fair event info:
- Compile relevant event info on a timely basis to send out e-mail newsletters, monthly press releases, and update website event calendar as new events are confirmed.
- Proof content of press releases drafted by marketing for non-fair events.
- Assist with planning of special events hosted by the Fair Authority. Tasks to include creating and mailing invitations, drafting and maintaining invite list, securing donation of beverages and/or raffle items, coordinating decorations and/or entertainment, and any other on-site event coordination.
- Miscellaneous administrative tasks: Organize filing, order supplies, draft reports, database maintenance, mailings, organize press clipping of articles/events/potential leads, and back-up switchboard relief.
- Work to help maintain good communication between sales and the client.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
