Missouri Fairs Wrap Up

Our 2010 covention was held January 28 - 30 at the Holiday Inn in Colimbia Missouri. In spite of the predicted winter weather we had 1000 convention attendees. The four day event was highlighted by our Sunday Morning Friendship Breakfast with speaker The Willow Springs Wildman Mr. Jerry Carroll whose message to believe in yourself and the value of what you do for your community went straight to the Fair industry.

Honor roll awards presented at the Breakfast went to Associate member Doug Roberts (Outlaw Truck & Tractor Pullers) and the Fair and Festival Honor Roll was presented to the Southeast Missouri District Fair Board.

Officers elected for the 2010 year were Mark Young (Webster County Fair) President, Fred Higdon (Southeast Missouri District Fair ) Vice President. Nancy Bright was re-elected Treasurer and Darcy Jones (Jones & Co. Carnival) was re-elected as Secratary. Bob Brickley (Triangle Talent) was elected to represent Entertainment Services as a Board member. Mike Heflin (Washington County Fair) was elected to represent District #4, and Fred Higdon was re-elected to represent District #7.

Scholarships were awarded in two different programs with Bethany Hovis representing Southeast Misouri District Fair placing first in the MAFF Public Speaking Contest. Ms. Nancy Jackson representing Macon Town and County Fair was awarded the Staats/Past Presidents scholarship. Both winners will recieve a $1,000.00 award for their efforts.

The 2011 convention will be held january 27 - 30 again at the Holiday inn in Columbia Missouri.
