Association of Connecticut Fairs

The Association of Connecticut Fairs held its annual fall convention on Oct. 25, 2008, at the Marriott in Rocky Hill, Conn. Nearly all of the 50 Connecticut fairs were represented at the meeting.

The meeting kicked off with a continental breakfast. The business meeting followed, which included elections. Following lunch, Barney Cosner of the Nebraska State Fair, Lincoln, presented an IAFE workshop titled, "Why Are We Here?" After a short break, the delegates broke down into workshops. Topics included "Promoting Your Fair on a Limited Budget," "Community Relations," "Beautification of Your Fairgrounds," and "Traffic Flow on the Grounds -- Vehicular and Pedestrian."

During the banquet that evening, Bob Wilson of WTNH Channel 8 served as master of ceremonies. Two scholarships were awarded and the photo contest and baking contest winners were announced.

Three new officers were elected during the meeting. The new officers are President Tom Zagurski of the Terryville County Fair, Terryville; First Vice President Mike Stevens of Haddam Neck Fair, Middle Haddam; and Second Vice President Bruce Richard of the Harwinton Fair, Harwinton.
